What to Do in Leavenworth, Washington

A little over 2hrs from Seattle is Leavenworth, a small town that looks just like you're in a German mountain village, no exaggeration! Leavenworth is a unique town that's worth the visit year-round. You'll find great outdoor activities, fun festivals, and German food. Over the years it's even been the setting of several movies, including "Cloudy with a Chance of Christmas" (2022), and "All I Want Is Christmas" (2012)! Here are some things that I recommend doing during your visit.

Outdoor Activities

Snow activities:

Leavenworth has some great snow activities if you want to venture out of the town. You can do some cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. There are several options of where to do it, like in Plain Valley, Stevens Pass Nordic Center, Sears Creek, North and South Park Nordic Trails, Kahler Glen, Eagle Creek, and Leavenworth Ski Hill. You can rent equipment from several shops in the area!

Hiking and other activities:

There are several trails in the surrounding areas that let you get into many activities, even with the kids and your dog. I enjoy the Icicle River trail, as it's easy and you can bring a stroller with you!

The Town

Food:

There are many pretty good spots in Leavenworth, especially if you're looking for German food! I like the Watershed Café and München House when I'm there. But have had good bites at the Andreas Keller Restaurant too. If you have a sweet tooth, check out Whistlepunk Creamery for their ice cream!

Beer:

Leavenworth looks like you're in Bavaria, and has some good beer spots to relax in! I like the Icicle Brewing Company. There's also Doghaus Brewery, Bushel and Bee Tap Room, and Blewett Brewing Company. In the fall, the town hosts a major Oktoberfest! It gets very crowded, but is fun.

Winter Activities:

In the winter, there are several activities taking place, including a big festival known as Christamastown! There's half a million lights, carolers, choirs, musicians, and if there's snow, you can go sledding down the hill in town. In January, the lights stay up and the town celebrates Winter Karneval. You can do a pub crawl, see ice carving, and fireworks.
